Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV) 18 Remember
ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
What new thing will you do in 2019 or will you spend time on the former things that did not earn the success you desired? One of the main blessings to the new year is that you have the ability to start afresh and leave unsuccessful dead things alone. The one area of your life that you might consider amending for the New Year is the concept of practicing Matthew 6:33 (KJV) 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. One of the most remarkable things that happen to individuals is the discovery of applying this scripture to their life.
Many followers Christians do not truly comprehend the impact of living life according to this scripture. As you go through life, you see many Christians just living life as they lived it before they received Jesus Christ as their savior. Carnal Christians do not put Jesus Christ first in their life. It takes a truly committed person to Jesus Christ to learn how to execute the above scripture and put Jesus Christ first.
In examining the verses around Matthew 6:33 you discover that Jesus is painting a word picture. All of what Jesus is describing in the verses around Matthew 6:33 are not worried about how to live or when they will eat. The word picture painted by Jesus describes the behavior of the creatures to their circumstances; how they did not worry or stress over life. The point Jesus is driving home is that if God takes care of the creatures He will certainly take care of His children!
The challenge so many have is that do not recognize their value in life. That is that God loves his children and wants the best for them, but so many do not know how to truly rest in Him and have God the center of their life. In order to be truly strong in the Lord and the power of His might I believe it is necessary to be sold out to Jesus. I believe it is a way in which we build our faith. The scripture says “faith without works is dead!” and we know that our works do not save us. We are only saved by the grace of God.
In order to have closer walk with the Lord if that is your hearts’ desire then you must apply Matthew 6:33 as listed above and James 4:8 (KJV)8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you….Matthew 6:33 says to seek the Lord first and James 4:8 says to draw nigh to God. These two scriptures implies that if you draw nigh and/or seek the Lord first your life will definitely be blessed greater than those who do not put God first in their life.
I would strongly encourage you for 2019 to put God first in everything in your life and see if your life is not different. Let 2019 see you do a new thing if have not already been putting God first in everything.
In 2019 put God first by doing the following things and more:
- Get up five to 10 minutes more each morning and have prayer and devotion before you leave the house
- Before you make any decision or plan anything in your life you pray and ask God for direction
- Set aside at least one day a week to fast
- Become a regular giver and tither
- Develop a new confessions of faith for the year 2019
- Make at least one or two new friends for this year
These are just a few suggestions how you can do new things in 2019. The key for 2019 is to do something new and different but most importantly to put God first in all you do.
